What are the types of graphics cards in computers? integrated vs dedicated
Share
There are two types of graphics cards in computers:
· Integrated Graphics Card
· Dedicated Graphics Card
1. Integrated Graphics Cards
Are built into the computer's motherboard and share the system's memory it shares the RAM with the CPU, for example if the RAM is 16 GB the integrated card takes memory form the 16 RAM for graphics processing. The integrated graphics cards are integrated inside the processor. They are less powerful than dedicated graphics cards but consume less power and generate less heat. They are suitable for basic tasks such as browsing the web, watching videos, and running office applications. Additionally, they are cheaper than the dedicated graphics cards.
Some examples of integrated graphics cards are Intel HD Graphics 620, Intel UHD Graphics 620, and Intel Iris Xe Graphics…etc.
Examples:
Dell Latitude 5420 14" Laptop - Intel Core I5 Gen 11Th - 16 GB DDR4 - 256 GB SSD m2 - Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 - Windows 11
2. Dedicated Graphics Cards
Have their own memory and processing power. They are more powerful than integrated graphics cards and are suitable for gaming, video editing, and other graphics-intensive tasks. The dedicated memory can be 1GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 6GB, 8GB…or more.
Most computers that have dedicated graphics cards also have integrated graphics cards depending on the type of processor because most Intel processors have an integrated graphics card, but this is not the case in most AMD processors.
Some examples of dedicated graphics cards include:
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090,
AMD Radeon RX 6800M,
Nvidia GTX 1080,
GTX 1070,
GTX 1060...etc.
Examples:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) Intel Core i7 - 16 GB RAM - Radeon Pro 555 with 2 GB - macOS Ventura
